The Millennium Archive

Rebuilt from the client, one message at a time

No server software or protocol documentation was ever published. The only surviving record of how Phase 1 spoke to its servers is the game client itself, so the revival began there: the wire format, the login, the lobby, the duel event stream and the card data were each recovered from the client and rebuilt as a new server.

The result is the Battle City server, a rules engine true to the 2005 rule era, and a launcher that points your copy of the game at it without changing your game folder. All of it is open source.

This is preservation and interoperability work on a service that no longer exists. No game files are distributed: you need your own copy of the game.
